3.4.3 Admissions Policies
The institution publishes admissions policies that are consistent with its mission.

STATEMENT OF RATIONALE FOR JUDGMENT OF COMPLIANCE
Southwest Texas Junior College’s mission statement is as follows:
Southwest Texas Junior College is a comprehensive, public college serving eleven counties in Southwest Texas. The College provides accessible, affordable, high-quality education that prepares students to successfully transfer to senior colleges and universities; enter the job market; pursue their professional and personal goals; and contribute to the economic growth of the region.
Southwest Texas Junior College admission policies are consistent with the SWTJC mission. SWTJC has an “open door” policy in compliance with the open-admission requirement of the Texas Education Code, which ensures accessibility to all potential students, regardless of location or teaching modality. SWTJC accepts for enrollment all persons regardless of race, creed, color, sex, national origin, age, religion, disabling conditions, or veteran status, who are otherwise eligible for admission as students. The Admission and Registrar’s office is responsible for overseeing SWTJC admission regulations. SWTJC’s admission regulations list procedures for general admission, dual credit and early admission for High School students, admission for foreign students, course audit, residency requirements, assessment testing, scholastic probation, enforced withdrawal, and readmission of academically suspended students.
Southwest Texas Junior College offers credit for military experience, professional certifications, and transfer credit - ensuring affordability in college education. The college offers placement testing on-site at the Uvalde, Del Rio, and Eagle Pass campuses (and as needed at the Crystal City, Hondo, and Pearsall sites) at a low cost to students, further ensuring affordability and accessibility throughout the service region. Developmental courses are offered for students who are not “college-ready” (based on testing), to provide students access to high-quality college-level education. Finally, students with sufficiently high scores can achieve credit by exam, further promoting accessibility and affordability, and promoting high-quality education.
Southwest Texas Junior College publishes admissions policies in the SWTJC Catalog and the SWTJC Student Handbook, both of which are available online in PDF (printable) versions, under the prominently displayed “About SWTJC” tab, on all swtjc.edu webpages. Admission policies are published on the SWTJC web site under the “Admissions” tab, and in various recruitment materials.
In addition, the following programs have selective admissions requirements: Associate Degree Nursing, Vocational Nursing, Radiologic Technology, and the Law Enforcement Academy . These selective requirements are also published in the Catalog and in Program packets.
